Hearts at War

Last chapter unwritten, a story's sad end,

Lovers rarely friends, a truth we can't mend.

His message, a whisper, sweet words in the night,

Maybe a mistake, but oh, what a sight.

Head screams in warning, "Don't fall for his charm,"

Heart skips a beat, safe in love's warm arm.

Love's flame flickers, a battle inside,

Head says, "No more," heart can't hide.

I crave something grand, a love story untold,

But average is all that my hands can hold.

He asks for no settling, yet here I remain,

Grasping at straws, in love's gentle rain.

Enough? Will it ever be truly enough?

Or will this yearning be a constant, rough cuff?

The answer unclear, the future unseen,

But one thing is certain, this love's bittersweet sheen.
